In common with others (it would appear), installation of iOS 16.5 severely degraded the battery life, and also caused significant heat generation. This was an immediate and quantifiable direct consequence of the upgrade. Online forums suggested that others have experienced this, and that Apple should fix it with 16.5.1. It wasn't fixed. I still have seriously reduced battery life, so much so that I cannot use the phone as have in the past.

If Apple didn’t say so, it ought to have been taken with a grain of salt. Only Apple knows what their updates will fix, until the update is released, then Apple usually shares what the updates improved, fixed, etc.

PS: Apparently, restoring the iPhone in DFU Mode fixed the battery drain issue for many users. If you’re interested, report back.
