does anyone know how to view your individual video clips and edits in the storyline so they are separate? final cut pro has made it all into one storyline so I now cant see the individual clips to make further edits
It is a bit unclear what you mean by “clips” vs “edits”. Perhaps you can elaborate on that; a screenshot may help clarify what you mean.
Anyway, you are much more likely to get good answers in the FCP forum, so I will ask the moderators to relocate this thread to that forum.
That is a synchronized clip - it's used to synchronize one video to one or more audio clips. Is that what you wanted to do?
(Sidenote: to take a screenshot, you can press Command-Shift-4 and drag to select an area of the screen; it will be saved directly to your Desktop, by default)
Yes the sycronize is what I wanted to do on 1 clip, the cutaway above layers have all disappeared (see image). I now just have 1 film with the clips embedded rather than them being above and being able to edit them.
I’m currently on my phone as laptop is transferring files so apologise for the unclear images.
What do you mean by B-roll?
and yes I made a 1 hour long project with total 4 channels (layers)
1 main channel storyline which is synchronised with music, then 3 other channels for cutaways.
All of these 3 channels/cutaways are now embedded into the main storyline so I can’t edit them separately.
Let me see if I got it right:
You had the P1000250 Synchronized clip in the primary storyline, and several other clips connected above it - is that it?
They are not appearing in the timeline now, but they still appear in the viewer when you play the project?
That's weird.
The only way I could see that happening is if you'd selected everything and made a compound clip - but the screenshot does not show a compound clip...
Double-clicking the synchronized clip opens it in its own timeline.
If the layers appear there, it would indicate that the OP effectively made the edits inside the synchronized clip.
If it were a compound clip, one could do Clip->Break Apart Clip Items, and it would replace the compound by its constituents. However, this functionality does not apply to Synchronized Clips.
An alternative is to open the Sync Clip by double-clicking, then select all, copy, and paste directly into the project, en lieu of the existing clip.
This shows that you made your edits inside the synchronized clip itself.
It is probably best not to mess with it now, but for the future, remember to:
create a project; put the synced clip in there; and do your edits in the project.
I don't know anything about synchronised clips but would double-clicking it open it up into its various items?

The cutaways and B-roll are added in the project not inside the sync clip. Have you made a project? If so, open the project by double clicking it. If not, use Cmd-N.
