Alarms don’t go off and stop notifications if something (YouTube, Podcasts, Music) is playing.

I fall asleep to YouTube, Podcasts, or Music. When my alarms go off, they don’t make noise and freeze at the top of my screen, which stops all notifications from going off. Whatever I was listening to continues, but the alarm is silent and doesn’t even go into snooze mode; it just stays there. This leads to me never waking up.

In this example image, the alarm stayed at the top of my screen and is not making any noise. YouTube is still playing. If I were asleep, it would just stay there and stop any other alarms from going off and any notifications from coming through, so when I eventually would wake up, I get all of the notifications from when I was supposed to wake up to when I actually did. I thought the problem was YouTube, but this happens with the Podcasts app too, even if the podcast isn’t playing anymore.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to stop it?

Hello akinele,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If you haven't already, make sure your iPhone is fully updated and then update your apps. Updating helps to resolve issues as they contain bug fixes and security updates too. If an update is needed, be sure to back up first:

How to manually update apps on your Apple device - Apple Support

If that doesn't help or you're already updated, does deleting all alarms and creating new ones help to resolve this issue?

Keep us posted.

Take care!
