When someone texts me I receive the notification but only on my watch and when I check messages on my phone I don’t see the message that they sent but when I check messages on my watch it shows?

I was having the same problem and found that the messages I weren't seeing on the phone were in "Junk". If you click the left arrow that says "< Filters", then scroll down to "Junk" you will likely see those messages there.
I wish there was a way to not get Notifications for specific folders, but in any case the messages were there, just not visible in the standard view.
