How do I turn off the camera for FaceTime? I use FaceTime to make calls and such but the camera always turns on even though I'm not using it. I want to permanently disable the camera for FaceTime.

As there would not be a specific setting to turn off the camera for FaceTime, we'd recommend making FaceTime audio calls instead. This article explains how: Make a FaceTime audio call using Messages on Mac - Apple Support
"1. In the Messages app 
on your Mac, do one of the following to choose who you want to start the audio call with:
in the top-right corner of the window.When someone includes you in a Group FaceTime call, you can join the call from the Messages conversation. Just click Join in the FaceTime message bubble. (See Group FaceTime requirements.)"
