Why are some text messages in green

Only iMessages (blue) will give you a status update (e.g. Delivered, Read). SMS messages (green) will only show a status message if they fail, which is rare.

iMessage is Apple's messaging service and only works between Apple devices that are logged into the service and have an active data connection.

SMS is a standard messaging service that will work between pretty much any cellular device. And, if you have Text Message Forwarding enabled on your iPhone, you will also see them on your iPad or Mac.

Are you sure you're talking about a MacBook and not an iPhone?

On the iPhone, iMessages are blue (the recipient has some Apple product too), and green indicates messages sent via sim traffic.

Sorry, never used messages from laptop.

NB>> Forwarding iMessage text messages to the SMS text message system is LITERALLY done through your Physical iPhone, logged in with the SAME Apple-ID.

Your iPhone must be active with a carrier, powered on, and have Cellular Service at that moment to get anything but "Not delivered".

Note that this only works on a Mac. It does not work on Windows as Windows doesn't support iMessage.
