Apple TV app keeps crashing

Every time I click on the episode I wish to watch, the entire Apple TV app crashes. I have restarted my MacBook multiple times as well as force quit and reopened the app but it is still crashing every time I try to watch an episode.

Apple TV video playback crashes every time within seconds of opening a video on my M4 Macbook Pro. I'm on macOS Sequoia Version 15.4.1, M4 MacBook Pro. Every time I try to watch a series with the Apple TV app, the video player crashes and closes itself within seconds of playback. It doesn't matter which series I'm watching. I'm able to use Apple TV streaming via the browser, but this is not optimal since the resolution is much better using the Apple TV app.

Apple TV app on Mac freezing/crashing since Sonoma install Ever since I installed Sonoma, Apple TV app freezes/crashes every time I play something. Using a 16-inch 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max with 32GB RAM (using 400GB of 4TB hard drive) running Sonoma 14.1.2. Previously, Apple TV has always worked perfectly, with no log, delay or lock up. Used it all the time. Now, when I open it, it's fine until I start choose a movie to watch. Within a few seconds, the app will freeze, and the ENTIRE OS will freeze, no cursor, no ability to change between apps. Typically this will last for about 30 seconds and then the whole system will crash and reboot. Worst part is that even after a reboot, in fact even after I upgraded from Sonoma 14.1.1 to 14.1.2, it still happens every single time. The last time it occurred, I was able to hit CMD-SHIFT-ESC and trigger a Force Quit, but even then the mouse was unresponsive and I had to use the keyboard to select Apple TV and trigger a Force Quit - which took almost 15 seconds before it actually quit. Any suggestions are welcome.

Apple TV doesn't start movies/episodes Hi y'all, Since a few days, I have had the problem that episodes or movies do not start after clicking them; actually, nothing happens. However, the weird thing is that some episodes/movies can start and, therefore, be watched. I already tried out a few things: force stop of the app, restarting the Mac, checking for updates, resetting cache/warning/ and history of the app, and deleting com.apple.TV.plist file. But none of the steps helped, and I still have the problem, but do not know how to solve it. Perhaps someone of you encountered the same or could help me, that would be awesome, thanks in advance :) Best, Nils

Hello ananya44,

With what you describe, we'd recommend first trying the steps at If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support. This covers some of the basics, some of which you've already done.

If that doesn't help, then the next step is found at Reset the Apple TV app - Apple Support which is a more in-depth step to help correct the application.
