Why isn't the wifi password being accepted before it begins the diagnostics?

I'm attempting to run diagnostics on a 2017 Macbook Pro with Intel chip (obviously). I'm holding D as the system starts, and it takes me to a screen asking me to connect to a network. I select my network and enter the password, but it is rejecting the password and not connecting to the network, and won't let me continue to the diagnostics. I know the password is correct as I'm typing this on the same network.
