How should I address error 5504 which keeps popping up on my iMAC desktop screen. The message is:
The selected files could not be copied from “” because an error occurred (5504).

I was able to fix this error by turning off Media Sharing on the Mac that was showing the 5504 error and turning it back on. I was prompted to login to my Apple ID when turning Media Sharing back on. If you are stuck logging in to your Apple ID after turning Media Sharing back on, just quit System Settings and open it again, and you will see that Media Sharing was successfully turned back on.

What are you attempting to do when you see that message appear? Is it appearing randomly, or when you try to connect an iOS device to your Mac, or download iTunes content , or something else?
Which version of macOS is running on your Mac?

This worked for me, thank you @trainingwheel. I had previously tried so many different pieces of advice on the web without success. This turned out be such a simple fix I don't know why it isn't promoted as a solution!
