sudden overheating and battery drain issue

My iphone 12 Pro is overheating very quickly, often through very light use - basic safari browsing or google map browsing. This is a new issue for me, it has just occurred in the last few weeks though my usage hasn’t changed. I have subsequently turned off all background app refresh and keep my screen brightness low and now carry a power bank with me so i can charge throughout the day. Could this be a new OS bug or maybe there is malware running that i cannot switch off? It seems very odd that this has occurred suddenly

I am on iOS 16.5

Well, that battery is reaching the critical point and could have unpredictable behavior (draining faster/overheating).

I suggest that you start creating a full backup of your iPhone on a regular basis (at least once a week), and make an appointment (*) to have your battery replaced at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region .

Giulio
