iTunes Airplay is no compatible with current Airplay playback configuration -Why?

From the documentation I have seen, iTunes for Windows supports Airplay v2 since iTunes v12.8. I am still having the above message/error when trying to connect only to my Samsung TV. No problem with my iOS devices connecting to both Denon AVR & Samsung TV, only in iTunes for Windows, V12.12.9.4.

iTunes will connect to AVR. However, clicking the Samsung gives the message. It also has a little lock icon next to it in the Airplay or "speakers to use" list. Great hint, but doesn't help with "why??"

Samsung and Windows/iTunes not playing together?

Same issue here. Had an Apple TV 2nd generation which from 1 day to next I could connect to airplay from my iTunes (PC) to Apple TV to stream music. Logged out of all devices and back in and then the Apple TV didn't show up on the airplay menu.

Purchased a new Apple TV and set it up, played fine for 2 days and then as of yesterday I cannot connect. Response is iTunes AirPlay is not compatible with AirPlay playback configuration. Called Apple support and they could not figure out the problem.

I took my two other laptops which didn't have iTunes and installed it. One does not even have a firewall and still I get the same response from either.

Hello wallace145,

We understand that you’re getting a message that iTunes AirPlay is not compatible with AirPlay playback configuration. We'd like to look into this with you.

You mentioned this is only happen with your PC and the Samsung TV. As a start, see if the suggestions here help to Choose which speakers to use in iTunes on PC.

"If you can’t choose your remote speakers

  • If you’re using speakers connected to an AirPort Express: Make sure your AirPort Express is properly plugged into a working power outlet and your remote speakers are properly connected to your AirPort Express.
  • If you’re using speakers connected using a wireless network: Make sure your computer is in range of your wireless network and your AirPort Express, Apple TV, or other AirPlay-enabled device is joined to the network and is active. Open the Wi-Fi status menu and make sure your network is selected (has a checkmark next to it).
  • If you’re using Apple TV: Make sure your Apple TV is properly connected and paired with the iTunes library you’re using.
  • If you’re using HomePod or HomePod mini: Make sure your HomePod or HomePod mini is turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi network. See the Apple Support article If HomePod mini or HomePod isn’t responding.

If you still can’t choose your remote speakers, or need more information about setting up your AirPort Express, Apple TV, or AirPlay-enabled device, see the documentation that came with it or visit the AirPort Support website.

If there’s a problem with an AirPlay device

If the AirPlay button changes , there’s a problem with an AirPlay device.

  1. In the iTunes app  on your PC, click the AirPlay button  at the top of the iTunes window to open the AirPlay menu.
  2. Check the icon next to the device.
    • a Speaker with lock   or   the AirPlay TV icon with a lock: You need to enter a password to connect to the speaker or TV.
    • an exclamation point inside a triangle: The device has an error.
    • an exclamation point inside a triangle with a lock: You’ve selected a device but haven’t entered its password."

If the issue persists and you're only having this issue between Windows and your Samsung device, we recommend getting in touch with the television manufacturer as a next step: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support
