Airpods not unlinking from old owner

My dad recently gave me his older set of Airpod Pros, and I keep getting a message from the findmy app that "The owner of this item can see its location"

He has gone in and removed the device from his findmy app, as well as via his apple ID under iPhone settings. On his end, it does not show up as one of his devices any longer.

I have tried to hold the button on the case to reset the airpods, but every time I link it to my phone, it still gives me the message that they are still linked to his Apple ID.

How can we fix this issue so that I can get them associated with my Apple ID?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Raven6669,

In order to remove an accessory from another Apple ID, the steps in If an item or device is connected to another Apple ID - Apple Support will need to be followed.

"How to remove AirPods, AirTag, or another Find My network accessory or device from an Apple ID on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the Find My app, then tap the Items tab or Devices tab.
  2. Tap the item or device you want to remove, then swipe up on the handle.
  3. Tap Remove Item or Remove This Device, then tap Remove to confirm."

We hope that helps out.

Cheers.
