Symptoms: In Finder, selecting Time Machine shows the backups that have been performed. All good so far. In ‘Enter Time Machine’ you can see the ‘Now’ window with the directory structure. You cannot use the up/down arrows to browse to an earlier version. You can use the right hand time line to move up and down (with the highlighted backup time changing to red), but you cannot select a backup. Result Time Machine is not providing a back up service and I cannot restore earlier files if needed. What have I done wrong?

Time Machine Does not recognize Seagate backup drive for backup The Seagate backup drive is installed correctly as the icon is displayed on the desk top and is listed in Disk Utility. However, Time Machine will not recognize that specific back up drive. Options does not allow "Add a backup drive" for this Seagate hardware.

Time Machine asks to erase files on new LaCie backup external I have two iMac desktops and was using online backup for both of them. I decided that it was just as good to use Time Machine so I purchased a second LaCie external for the newer desktop. The older is already connected to a Simple Disk. When I selected to use the LaCie in Time Machine it asked if I wanted to erase the files on it. The LaCie is new and I just received it yesterday. I have not added anything to it. But I am afraid to erase whatever files on it in order to begin the backup procedure. Double check the connection is good and the cable being used works on another device. If both are okay, please restart in Safe Mode and then test to see if the drive can be seen. Also, check in Disk Utility to see if the drive is seen there.
