Can you confirm you're opening the spreadsheet in Numbers? I helped someone the other day that was opening this in iCloud and although it was opening the document, it was opening it as a PDF / some time of viewer that would prevent you from editing cells.


The other possibility is the table, where the cell is, is locked. You can unlock a table, or any object, by clicking on Format (the paintbrush icon) and then clicking on Arrange. Here you will be able to unlock or lock an object. If an object is locked, you cannot move, edit, or delete the object.
