I don't know if this is the reason but El Capitan is now considered to be quite old. Some developers only support the last couple of OS versions. It may be your application needs to be updated. That in turn may require a newer macOS which in turn may require a newer computer because a 2009 computer is considered to be well past its prime.

Not what you wanted to hear but as somebody else who uses old equipment (but doesn't care about watching Facebook videos or not), that's the way the world goes.

You may be correct about the need to update the application or OS system. However, my mid-2009 laptop have the highest OS system (El Capitan) that can run on my laptop. My Facebook application runs videos and photos albums ok on my newer Macbook Air laptop and my Iphone, which uses the latest OS operating system. Just wondered whether other people might be having the same problem viewing FB videos on their older laptops.
