How noisy is the new 2023 (June) Mac Studio?

I got an M2 Max Mac Studio a couple weeks ago and it is completely silent. I have tried maxing out the cpu cores doing data science calculations with multiprocessing and also didn't hear any fan noise. I have not stressed the GPU however.

Same here. I hear nothing.

Just got a Mac Studio M2 Max for my audio studio. It is dead quiet.

We had LOTS of discussions about that when it first came out.

The original version had a rear grille that wrapped around the back and took up part of the side. Users complained it made too much noise, and worked to identify which versions were noisiest, with limited success. Early Adopters who needed it really quiet got too much sound out it when it was working really hard.

One blogger fiddled with it for a long time, and came up with a fix experimentally. They said the noise was actually a variant of Whistling, such as that produced by the same mechanism as a flute, and that covering a section of the grille that lapped onto the side quieted it right down.

if you look at the version currently for sale you will see that the updated version has a rear grille that is completely restricted to the flat part of the back. I expect it is nice an quiet now.

All I can report is that I have a Mac Studio Max(M1) that has been completely silent for the past year of use. The problem with anecdotal reports is that you don’t know anything about the skill of the user, the environment of the computer, or the temperature it operates in. Using a utility that reports the speed of the fans my Mac Studio fans never get much above the minimum range, even during high loads. The case is always cool to the touch. But my machine is in an air conditioned room at about 75°F.
