iphone is saying my music isn’t authorized, but i uploaded from a cd

I don’t use Apple music or any other streaming service, and i don’t have music turned on in settings. I purchase music and upload it to itunes, then transfer to my phone. i recently got a new iphone 11 pro, and also a mac mini, so i transferred my music from my laptop to the mac mini, then synced it all to my phone. every once in a while it won’t play a song and it says my content isn’t authorized. i don’t have a vpn. how do i fix this? i own this music, how can it not be “authorized”?

Hey there hemill100,

We understand you are having trouble playing some songs that you synced from your computer to your iPhone. We'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

To begin, were these the steps you followed to transfer your music: Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC - Apple Support

If so, are you able to play the songs without issue on your Mac? If not, do you receive the same error message or a different one?

If you could also let us know which macOS version you're using, we'd appreciate it! You can find that in Settings > About This Mac. This will ensure we have all the accurate information moving forward to help look into this further.

Kind regards.

Hi hemill100,

Thanks for those details. To clarify a few other points, you mentioned earlier you've purchased these songs. Were they purchased from the iTunes Store, or from another source?

If they were from the iTunes Store, it sounds possible they were purchased with a different Apple ID. Have you used another in the past? If so, you can confirm if you bought them with a different Apple ID by reviewing your purchase history with this guide: View your purchase history for the App Store, iTunes Store, and other Apple media services - Apple Support

Best wishes.

My mac is using catalina 10.15.7, and when i try to play the song in question on my mac it says my computer isn’t authorized to play the content and asks me to sign in. when i sign in the message says my computer was already authorized, and it’s now re-authorized. when i try to play the song, same thing. not authorized, i sign in, it says my computer is re-authorized but the song still won’t play.

I can’t say for sure where they were purchased but it’s possible it was the itunes store.

But I only have one itunes account, going back at least a decade, i’ve never had another. and using my current example song, there is another song from the same album, purchased at the same time and that one plays fine.

this seems more like a fluke that happened converting from machine to machine. i’m going to try deleting the song and adding it back in and see if that helps.
