capital z isn't working

As I was typing, I attempted to use a capital "z" but it did not appear. I tested both the "z" and "Shift" keys, which are working. I am not sure when the problem began since I have never used a capital "z" on this computer. When I was looking to solve it, I came across an old community thread from 2007 that had a similar issue. I tried to follow the steps in the thread but could not fully understand them. I kindly ask for your help in solving this problem. Thank you for your time and consideration.

And what about the surrounding capital letters...?

Keys in a straight line, keys associated on the diagnonal, individual key issues like your example typically indicate a hardware issue.

You can compare your results using an external keyboard as a test.

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

—A SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

This test will tell you if third party interference; most* extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"
