To transfer your camera photos to your Mac, you need to use the USB cable provided with all digital cameras and a USB connector compatible with your MacBook. Don't forget to power on your camera to import the photos to your Mac. Close any image capture programs or applications that automatically start when your Apple device connects to the camera. Next, follow these steps to import photos from your camera to your Mac:

1. Open Finder and navigate to Go > Computer > UNTITLED icon.
2. Locate the Digital Camera Images (DCIM) folder and its subfolders to access your stored pictures.
3. Select all the pictures in the DCIM subfolders by holding the Shift key and clicking on the photos you want to import.
4. After selecting the desired number of photos, release the Shift key and press CMD+C to copy the files.
5. Store all the photos in a specific folder on your desktop using the CMD+V command. To simplify the process of locating pictures, always create a subfolder within the Pictures folder with a specific date or title that describes the image files stored inside.

Option 2: Insert Camera Memory Card/SD Card into Mac

Another way to access or import camera photos on your Mac is by using a memory card (compact flash card) reader slot. If your camera features a removable Secure Digital (SD) card, remove it and insert it into your MacBook's SD card slot. However, not all Mac devices have a built-in SD card slot. If your Mac lacks one, connect a macOS-compatible card reader to your Apple device to import photos. Follow these steps to transfer photos to your Mac:

1. Insert the card into your computer's SD card slot or connect the card reader to your computer and insert the memory/SD card into it.
2. Open Photos and choose File > Import.
3. Select the photos or videos you want to import and click Review for Import.
4. If you have selected multiple photos, choose one of the following options:

Some high-end DSLRs and mirrorless cameras use non-SD-family cards ... and in that case, you'd want to get a matching card reader.

My Canon uses an SD card that I just remove from camera and insert in an SD card reader. Then I import into Photos (or any other editing app.). When done I just delete the photos from the card and put back in camera to use again.
