Apple Watch SE2 touch screen not responding after swimming

I bought my SE in January and have been swimming three times. I have set the watch for pool swim or open water swim both times then started swimming. When I stopped swimming I held the crown until the water ejected. However, the screen wasn’t responsive to touch. It was only responsive to the Digital Crown. It took about three hours for the Watch to go back to normal.

I understand that the Watch is not water proof and only water resistant, but surely it should do better than that. Does anyone have any ideas what could be going wrong? Thanks!

Hey Marks-vics,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

When turning off Water Lock, the water is ejected. Once you see the Unlocked alert, the display should work as expected. If Water Lock is still turned on, you will not have access to your display. When it is on, the display doesn't respond to prevent unintended taps.

See below for steps on turning off Water Lock.

Press and hold* the Digital Crown on the side of your Apple Watch until the display says Unlocked. A series of tones plays to clear any water that remains in the speaker, and then you can use your display as usual.

Take care.
