cannot download canon mp490 print drivers

I am running Monetary v.12 and now cannot get my tried-n-true Canon Pixma Mp490 to print. Canon no longer provides drivers or support. There is no need to buy a new printer, (is there)?

Hi,

Yes, unfortunately, the latest printer driver from Canon is for macOS 10.12 Sierra.

This does not necessarily mean that it cannot be used with a few subsequent operating systems, but that would be entirely experimental. The same would be true regarding a Canon MP490 series driver found via Apple (Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for macOS).

There is also an experimental Gutenprint driver for the MP490, but it is unclear whether it works at all with any modern system.

So, the options are limited. If you have access to an older Mac, compatible with the existing drivers, it may be possible to share the printer from there. Possibly even for iPhone/iPad use via a Mac application like Printopia (https://www.decisivetactics.com/products/printopia/). Otherwise, it may become necessary to use the printer with a PC, where printer drivers are available for up to Windows 10.
