itunes stuck on 'Preparing ipad for restore', do i plug it out and retry?

Hi, I followed apple's instructions after i forgot my passcode, but they say wait for itunes to download and retry the restore. Well, it's now on 'Preparing ipad for restore' and my ipad's recovery mode has obviously timed out. It's not doing anything and the serial number has turned to N/A, do i plug my ipad out and try again, or leave it in and wait more?

Hello beelzepup,

What you've shared sounds like expected behavior! To continue all you'll need to do is put your device back into recovery mode.

Wait while your computer downloads the software for your iPad. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your iPad exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 3.
