I have a number of favorites in Maps that I want in a particular order. I click more in the favorites section, click edit and then arrange them in the desired order. However, when I return to the main maps, the favorites are still in the same order as before. What am I doing wrong?
there is a facility to rearrange favourites in iPhone maps (more - edit - drag up or down by three lines to the right).
But, since the iOS update, sept 2023, the list of rearranged, saved favourites is not reflected on the main screen any more, it’s not reordered to match your choice in the edited list.

My iPhone is on the current version iOS (Sep 2023). The issue with re-ordering favourites seems to be that they are always shown in ‘distance from current location’ order - no matter how you rearrange them yourself.
I’ve proved this by going on holiday 400 miles from ‘Home’ and my Home, and other favourites near to where I live, are now at the very end of my list, and I have not changed anything in the order myself.
This has only started in the last year, so Apple Maps updates have changed something in the way this works.
Either restore users’ ability to change their favourites order - or, if the order is to continue to be by distance and controlled by the App, then take away the three lines and ability to drag/change the order in ‘Edit’ and remove the help files that tell users they can make changes and ‘Home’ is always first in the list.

I am running the latest app on my iPhone (16.5).
I tried restarting the phone as you suggested and it briefly appeared to be working correctly. I thought problem solved. Then after about 15 seconds, the favorites returned to a random order. Weird. I restarted the phone again and got the same results. This has worked properly for me in the past so I don’t know what happened. It’s not a super big deal, I just like to order the destinations in the favorites when I go on vacations.
Interesting. I rearranged my favorites a few days ago and they are still where I want them to be. I assumed it was because of the ios update but maybe not. I'm checking maps everyday to see if the problem returns but so far, still good. I guess time will tell for me. It's a frustrating issue for sure.

We reviewed this a bit deeper and it appears that you can't reorder your favorites, as there isn't a way to do it shown under: Save favorite places in Maps on iPhone
That being said, you can organize places in Maps using My Guides for something like a trip by following the steps located here: Organize places in My Guides in Maps on iPhone

Update: With the release of ios 17.0.2, this issue appears to have been resolved.
Any resolution to this? I'm on iOS 17.1.1 and seeing this issue exactly as described in the earlier posts.
