Hi bds1991,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. You've asked a great question. The MacBook should remain trusted unless you've made changes on your Mac or erased your iPhone. The following article should help with your concerns. See: About the 'Trust This Computer' alert message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

What the trust settings on your device mean
When you connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a computer or other device for the first time, an alert message asks whether you trust the computer:
* Trusted computers can sync with your device and access your device's photos, videos, contacts, and other content. These computers remain trusted unless you change which computers you trust or erase your device.
* With iOS 16 and later, the alert message appears when you back up your device. If you turn on automatic backups, the alert message appears every time that you connect your device to the computer.
* If you choose not to trust a computer, you block its access to content on your device. The alert message appears every time that you connect your device to that computer.

Regards.

Howdy,

Just to clarify, apparently Apple made a change in iOS 16:

"With iOS 16 and later, the alert message appears when you back up your device. If you turn on automatic backups, the alert message appears every time that you connect your device to the computer."

So, they change the behavior in iOS 16 so that it will ALWAYS ASK TO TRUST BEFORE A BACKUP.

So apparently, there is no way to permanently trust a computer, when backups are being done, which are of course usually done automatically with any 'sync' via iTunes or Finder.

You can read it here:

"The MacBook should remain trusted unless you've made changes on your Mac or erased your iPhone." Yes, it should. But it doesn't. As is indicated in the paragraph afterwards, "With iOS 16 and later, the alert message appears when you back up your device. If you turn on automatic backups, the alert message appears every time that you connect your device to the computer."

Yes, the alert message appears every time the computer tries to launch an automatic backup. And since very often the backup gets interrupted (don't ask me why, it just does), the alert message appears again and again. The end result is the that the automatic backup never finishes.

So, because of a setting that is supposed to increase security, my iPad is no longer being backed up to my computer. It's high time Apple changed this ridiculous behaviour.
