Some images are total noise in Safari

Since the recent Safari update (16.5) I have run into this problem on multiple websites and on different Macs. The images usually load fine then immediately change to what is shown in the screenshot below. Sometimes they later change back to the image. Any idea what's up with that?

At first the problem appeared to affect only certain hardware configurations (specifically, the Mini) but recent Safari updates caused it to affect other models. No single cause appears to have been identified.


Some workarounds reportedly involved either selecting or de-selecting WebGL via Metal in Safari's Develop menu > Experimental Features, but those have not worked in all cases: Use the developer tools in the Develop menu in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.


Revert changes with Reset All to Defaults at the bottom.
