Apple ID password recovery

I am helping someone who forgot the password for Apple ID. Unfortunately this coincided with a forgotten password for the iPhone. The person started the recovery process where you use someone else's phone number for assistance in the recovery process. There is an auto-generated email that says that the person will be contacted at a specific time (typically after 3-4 days). However, we have tried this 4 times as of now and no text/call/email has been received. The Apple ID remains locked. Quite a frustrating process and not expected from Apple with all the premiums attached to their devices and services. Customer Support has not been able to resolve the issue. They just ask to repeat the process again with hope for some magic to happen by repeating the same process. Appreciate any insights from he community to resolve this issue.

When you have to use account recovery, your best friend is the website iforgot.apple.com Here is what is required:

You need to know your Apple ID email and phone number associated with your Apple ID two-factor without knowing that you will not be able to reset your password. You need to know the old phone number even if you changed numbers.

After you get your Apple ID in recovery, it will say either something like “we are examining your account and will get back to you in 24 hours” or “we will contact you shortly.” With either message, I suggest you go to iforgot.apple.com often and check the status. Don’t be put off by the site asking for your Apple ID and phone number to get in because that’s what it needs to get to your status. So if you are in recovery, keep going back to iforgot.apple.com to find your status. If you go to that website, say an hour after putting your account in recovery, it will say “we are examining your account and you can check the status in 23 hours. So in 23 hours, go back to iforgot.apple.com and then it will say “you will be able to reset your password in so many days.” It should also say we will text the phone number you gave when your account is ready. My suggestion is keep going back to the iforgot.apple.com daily to make sure it’s stays in recovery. So if it says you can reset your password in 3 days, go back and check each day and when the 3 days (or whatever days it says) it will then say reset your password now. It is only active a short time so if you don’t reset your password in that time frame, you have to do the whole process again.

I’m having the same experience with my partners phone. We have been through the recovery process multiple time and the last step is never accessible so we have to start again. It’s been 3 months now and starting to become really frustrating and upsetting. We’ve tried everything including recovery contact. His iPhone 11 died due to software error code so now inaccessible and can’t remember the Apple ID and phone passcode not accepted. Banking cards also expired during initial stage of recovery and now can’t use them as a form of ID…so annoying. Tried to use my phone as the contact to receive the recovery reset and that hasn’t worked either. Anyone??
