I have several backups for my MacMini which was stolen in Costa Rica. It was a mid-2012 with upgrades to hard drive, memory, etc. It was backed up to an external HDD which I have now that I've returned home to USA. I purchased a new mac-mini M1 2020, running the latest Monterey OS.
When I go to enter time machine, It will only show today. It will not go back in time. I am looking for specific folders and for earlier stickies.

Thanks for your help, however, I followed those directions and when it asked for the password, I started typing, but nothing showed up on the screen...typed in the password anyway and hit return - NOTHING
Changed to admin's password to not having a password to log in and did all that same and got the prompt "incorrect password".
Now what ?

So, you're running under a different Username or what?
Same username both the backup and the "new" computer
Time Machine won't go back in time
