Hello zarf99,

If your iPhone is randomly shutting down, here a some things to check that can prevent that from happening:

  1. Verify the software on the device is up to date. As a reminder, here are the different ways available to update iOS: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
  2. Verify the device is used within tolerable operating temperatures: If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

If everything is up to date, and the iPhone is being used within acceptable temperature ranges, then the next step would be to reach out to Apple Support using this link: Get Support

Have a good day.

UPDATE: I brought my phone to Verizon and luckily i'd been paying for a protection plan because they not only replaced but updated to a 15pro. Anyways when we took the cover off my phone you could see the screen was bulging out and actually separated from the case on one side. so the battery was clearly going bad and starting to swell. He said he'd never seen a newish phone (8mo/old) do this. Just thought i'd close the loop here in hopes of helping some other confused users.

hey, my 14plus has been doing the same recently. can you please update if you got it resolved? if so, how? it’s been very frustrating for me because it keeps happening every other minute. I can barely use my phone for 5 minutes now and it shuts off again.

Go to Settings>Battery>Battery Health. If it's 80% or less, you definitely need a new battery. Even if it isn't, sudden shut downs can indicate other battery problems. Contact Apple and have them run diagnostics.

this started happening to me today. (14 pro) Exactly like the poster said. Battery basically full then drops to 10% and after a few mins freezes and then shuts itself off. It will stay on for only a few minutes before restarting again. If you put it on a charger, it reboots and then the battery goes up to either 94% or 97% (yes, ONLY one of those) in a matter of a couple minutes.

the original complaint here was in June 2023, 7 months ago and a few iOS's ago, so it can't be solely because of not updating right?...Even though I have my phone on autoupdates and plug it in every night it still won't update without me walking it through; but I guess that's another issue altogether. hope I'm wrong and this update fixes the issue.
