Problem with the volume down button

Sometimes when turning the volume down just one click it lowers the volume all the way down which is super annoying. Sometimes my volume down button doesn’t even work which makes me have to use the assistive touch which i don’t like using or lowering it from the control center. I’ve tried restarting, and cleaning the volume buttons up even though theres nothing wrong with those but nothing fixes it. What should i do?

I’m on an IPad 6th gen.

As described, either you a holding the “down” volume button as a sustained click - this muting audio - or the button itself is sticking, causing audio to mute.


If your iPad is in a fitted case, the case many interfering with operation of the physical buttons on your iPad. Removing the iPad from the case may resolve the problem.


If you do not have a fitted case, the physical buttons may have been damaged or are not functioning correctly - and may require repair.


You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
