Disable swipe right for Messenger on iPad ?

Is it possible to disable 'swipe right' that shows the sidebar on the messenger app ?

I'd much rather just display the sidebar using the 'three lines' in the top left corner ...

As a right handed old f... I naturally swipe towards the right when swiping up and down ... which displays the sidebar when I just want to scroll through messages ...

Especially annoying when writing a longer message and scrolling up and down to spell-/contentcheck what I've written ! :)
