How to convert YouTube videos to mp4 on MacBook

So I have Avast Antivirus protection software downloaded and this started yesterday, I was trying to convert a YouTube Video to mp4, I went to a few websites and they couldn't do it for me. A few hours later, I get a notification and my MacBook Pro saying that this website named Chabadokor.com/ie is an infected website and that the website is a malicious code that can harm my laptop, but I have never even heard of that website before and apparently it was trying to download a thing called URL Blacklist, and I've never used this website and every 1/2 an hour I get sent notification about this website trying to infect my laptop. Why?

I found out, if you open up the safari preferences and go to the websites tab. and then go to notifications. There is an unknown website (usually intentionally left blank) that will send notifications. You should delete this!

It stopped my annoying notifications.

The notification will say something like- 'Someone has connected to your PC' from some Russian IP.

Or Sometimes it will say that there is a problem with your anti-virus.

If you happen to click on the notice, you will be connected to the shady Chabadokor website.

😡 Annoying Pop-up malware spam on my MacBook Pro "us.Chabadokor.com", not a virus.

I've attempted to use YT to mp3/mp4 websites before and I've noticed when I click convert, it will redirect me to a super sketchy site. One of those sites could be a link to download a program. In this case, probably malware. I would use your anti-virus and scan your computer for threats and remove/delete any suspicious files/apps. Otherwise just stay clear of conversion websites that seem really sketchy and consider doing some research for a safe web converter. Just in case, make a backup of your computer's internal disk if things get out of hand and you need to wipe your computer.

I hope this helps!

There is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This documents describe what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community and Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support.

There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs.  There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

Anti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.  They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware.  Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance.

There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is designed solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it.  The free version is more than adequate for most users.

Unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.  Read these two articles: Public VPN's are anything but private and Security Risks: The Dangers of Using Free VPNs (eccu.edu)

My recommendation is to uninstall Avast and any other apps that fall into the categories listed in the first sentence of this post according to the developers' instructions.

As for converting YouTube videos to mp4 try downloading them with YouTube Downloader it seems to convert all my downloads to mp4. For existing videos already on your Mac give the free, open source Handbrake a try.

If you need to download from YT, I found a great little app that downloads from the link you put in, and before you download, you can click on a pop-up menu that allows you to convert the file into other formats such as mp3, mp4, mp4a, and different resolution sizes. You can also choose a different place to download your files to. I've been using it for about 2 years, and they keep it updated pretty regularly. It only costs about $15, but you own it with no subscriptions. It's called, PullTube made by mymixapps.
