I am using the same phone and Mac but now the videos I record on my iPhone no longer play on my Mac through QuickTime or iMovie. Two weeks ago I was able to edit a movie in iMovie from a video I took on my phone but now videos say unsupported when I try to open them on my Mac. Is there a way to play MOV files on El Capitan? I tried converting the files to mp4 but it changes the color/quality of the video

Have you updated the Software on your iPhone or Mac recently? This could affect the ability to play files between a newer operating system and an older operating system. I can see your Mac currently runs OS X El Capitan. Does your iPhone run a newer operating system like iOS 16?
Yes iOS 16. I was able to transfer videos from my iPhone to my Mac and iMovie two weeks ago. I don’t think my phone has updated since then
Are the videos H.264 AVC or the newer H.265 HEVC? High Sierra or later is needed for the latter.
