Family Sharing - Verification

When trying to set up family sharing and add children to family sharing account I get the message "The SMS requests to this phone number have exceeded the limit. Please wait a while and try again."

I have waited 12 hours and still continue to get the same message. How long does it take before this resets itself.

Hello Bluegum123,

Just to clarify, are you attempting to get a verification code when that error appears? If so, please check out this link, which outlines available options for receiving a verification code, and may help: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

Whenever you sign in with your Apple ID on a new device or browser, you'll confirm your identity with your password plus a six-digit verification code. There are a few ways you can get a verification code. You can use the code displayed on your trusted device, get a text or phone call, or generate a code from your trusted device.

If you use iOS 11.3 or later on your iPhone, you might not need to enter a verification code. In some cases, your trusted phone number can be automatically verified in the background on your iPhone. It’s one less thing to do, and your account is still protected with two-factor authentication.

Use the code displayed on your trusted device

If you have a trusted device running iOS 9 and later, OS X El Capitan and later, iPadOS 13 and later, or watchOS 6 and later, the verification code is displayed automatically on your trusted devices.

1. Sign in with your Apple ID and password on a new device or browser.
2. Look for a sign in notification on any of your trusted devices.

Map with Buffalo, NY prominently marked on it. The caption indicates that an Apple ID is being used to sign in to an iPhone near Buffalo.
3. Tap Allow to receive your verification code.
4. Enter the verification code on your other device to complete sign in.

Thanks!

This isn’t the problem nor does it address the question, which I’m facing too

my Situation is that the “verify” button after entering the code wouldn’t work when trying to purchase my kids first micro transaction in a game, and I tried multiple times. So I went to the App Store to buy a copy of Minecraft but this time it gave me the error. I can confirm the verify button DOES work when not being done inside a game (tried with an old code), but this overall jsut happened to be the time I ran out of “sms verification attempts”

here I am 8 hours later and still can’t verify. An hour or two I get but.. this is excessive

the question is: how long does it take for the “exceeded sms verification attempts please wait a while” error to go away
