How to fix Internal Speaker issues on MacBook Pro Move the OT to the body of the post

I've had no sound on my MBP for several days, did all the things they suggested, nothing. Everything was up to date on MacOS, no clue. But my battery was going lower and lower down below 18% so I sat it down and hooked up charger. While charging I asked Siri a question and she popped up and started talking. Bingo, sound on. I didn't do anything, not even reboot. Clueless! There were 2 things that had happened before the sound went out. MacOS had updated and after that I used my Air pods. Thinking it was the air pods I closed Bluetooth but that didn't do anything.

I had the same thing happen. Resetting the NVRAM worked for me. Shut computer down. Restart and immediately hold down opt+cmd+P+R. Keep holding it down until you hear the reboot sound TWICE. Once you see the Apple and the progress bar going, you can let go. Sound is back!

What to Try:

• Unmute the App:

If an app has its own audio input and output settings, then perform things on the app itself.

• Remove External Devices:

Verify what your output item is.

• Disable Bluetooth:

If there are any microphones nearby, then they may be getting in the way via bluetooth.

• Go Here: Control Access to your Microphone on Mac.

See if an app is permitted to use your microphone.

• Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Sound) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM.  (Applies to Anted-Based Macs Only)

• Boot into Safe Mode:

When you boot into Safe Mode, items load by default, with certain settings and caches set aside. So, hold down the shift key upon boot. See what happens then.

• Create a New Administrator:

See if creating and logging in as a new administrator does the trick. There may be something misconfigured in your current user - something that is getting in the way. Go to: System Preferences > Users & Groups > Unlock > Click: "+" > Create the new administrator

Thank you so much for this suggestion, it totally worked. Took me a second to find Siri on my laptop (am I the only one who had no clue Siri was on the Macbook?? I only talk to her on my iPhone) Anyway, I asked her a question and the sound started. Easy peasy.

I started looking on how to reset the NV RAM and found this interesting but important information. I have a newer MBP from 2021 with the M1 chip:

The steps to reset NVRAM don't apply to Mac computers with Apple silicon, and aren't needed on those computers.

When all else fails, you need to consider a trip to an Apple Store for them to test.
