Change OS from 16.5 to 16
I have a new Freestyle Libre 2 glucose reader and downloaded the app on my iPhone. Unfortunately, I find it needs my phone OS to be 16 and I’m running 16.5. How can I go back to OS 16?
iPhone XR, iOS 16

There is no supported means to downgrade iOS. If the reader is not working with the current iOS version, check with the third-party app vendor for device firmware and app updates, and then check with the third-party app support.

There should be no reason for the app to not run on iOS 16.5 if it runs on iOS 16. As there is no major difference between them.
Are you sure it doesn't work on iOS 16.5?
I'd wager it should work just fine.
The new 16.5 update made it so my Freestyle Libre 2 will not work. I even deleted the Libre 2 app and reinstalled it. I now am stuck using the old finger sticks because Kaiser will not let me return the unused sensors. My health as a Type 1 Diabetic is at risk because I can’t scan my sensors. Apple needs to look into this.
My freestyle libre 2 is off by 20 points (too high) since I updated to 16.5. Probably a good idea to turn auto updates off and do a compatibility check before installing. My current monitor is now useless.
First, Abbott needs to update their info; OS 16.5 works with Freestyle Libre 2.
Second, my device is also 20+ higher than the OneTouch that I gauge my readings by. But knowing this, it is still useful feedback on foods I eat. The gap did reduce during the 2 week lifespan of the arm unit. Yes, Abbot should adjust for the new OS for accuracy, but it’s not totally useless. Freestyle uses a non-blood fluid, unlike the finger sticker/ blood used by OneTouch.
Maybe the FDA or Federal agency can motivate Abbot to do the right thing here.
I had the same frustrating experience with the Libre 2 support line. They have no date that the Libre 2 app will be updated to the 16.5 version. I think this is affecting many people. Their suggestion was to revert to an older iOS version, but that is not possible. I ended up having to buy a reader since the app is worthless for an iPhone at 16.5 for a new user of the Libre 2 sensor.
I had my first Libre 3 for 2 weeks and all worked fine. On the night when i was to use a new sensor, i had an auto update to 16.5 and the new sensor could not be paired. I have turned off auto update as suggested and now wait for Abbott to release an update that would make their software compatible to 16.5. This raises two significant issues. 1. To use the sensor, i will be missing on all the security updates Apple regularly provides. Not sure that is a good practice. 2. Let's assume Abbott catches up. So i now can use their software since my ios is still at 16.5. In the meantime, Apple (theoretically) has released 17, 17.5 and 18. In a few cycles Abbott releases compatibility with 17. How to i selectively update to ios 17, when the current release would be ios 18? Is there a way to selectively upgrade to a specific release that is not the current one. Apologies yo those of you who have gone through this process before and who know the answer.
My problems started with 16.5 over a week ago, received replacement sensor from Abbott but still unable to receive readings. Customer Services know there is a problem but really could not give a ****. Tell you not to download any updates without checking compatibility and will just have to wait until they upgrade their system!!
Small note on their website re. latest software update IOS 17.2 is causing difficulties due to "Standby" and "Assistive Access" but problems started with 16.5.
Just arrived in the post is a handheld reader with a sensor, yet to be unpacked!
Why can't 2 large corporations get their act together, this is vulnerable Type 1 Diabetic patients we are talking about and the cost to the NHS for these sensors is enormous (pack of 2 costs £ 120 GBP)!!
Can't find a fix any where online.
No, it's not up to Apple to fix this. This up to Abbott to make their device and software work with 16.5
Thanks, I did. They have no plans to tweak the firmware.
The Abbot tech said no and 16 is specifically listed in the manual specs. But from what you say about the similarities with 16.5, I’ll try again when I change the arm disc. Thanks
You were right; new responder worked fine with phone app using OS 16.4. Thanks
I understand your frustration. For a company to not have updates for iPhone 16.5 is a major health risk for people.
