Ecobee Sensors randomly switch to default room

The ecobee sensors will randomly switch back to the default room where my thermostat is located. How do I stop this? It’s extremely frustrating having to redo my automation every few weeks because they get deleted when the sensors move.

It seems what has happened is that in the Homekit app, all the ecobee sensors are now located in the same room as the Ecobee thermostat. However, in automations you can find the sensors are now named by room of the thermostat followed by the room the sensor is in. For example if your Ecobee is in the Hallway, you would find “Hallway Bedroom”, or “Hallway Livingroom”. You can redo your automations and they will work, but all of them will be listed in automations as “Hallway”. It’s annoying but this is a work around until someone repairs the APIs.

I have found what I believe to be the problem. If the ecobee thermostat has a power failure, it resets the sensors back to the default room. I recently figured that out when I took it off the wall to clean it and when I put it back on, that night my sensors were reset. I knew they were fine the day before and I was thinking "hmmmm, I wonder...."

The next day I put them back in the right spot, power cycled the ecobee, and sure enough, back to the default room. Not sure if this is an ecobee issue or a limitation for how sensors are implemented via HomeKit, but I would guess this is the issue.
