Missing emails from renamed Gmail folder in Apple Mail

I renamed an email folder (it's a Gmail account that sits in Apple Mail) and suddenly all the emails have disappeared, including all the emails in the subfolders). They still show up if I go to my Gmail account in Google, and they show up in my Apple phone app, but in the Apple Mail app on my iMac, they have disappeared. I've tried quitting mail, and I've tried turning off that Gmail account, and then toggling it back on again, with no success.

Any ideas?
