Charging Symbol Does Not Appear

I have an 12.9 iPad Pro. When I plug in the adapter the lightening bolt symbol does not always appear. Does the IPad Pro have a battery management feature that does not show the device as charging until it drops below a certain percentage?

Sometimes an iPad will not always chime or immediately begin charging when initially connected to its Power Adapter while the iPad is locked. Unlocking the device will usually cause charging to start - and the charging chime to sound.

Your iPad will by default lock its USB-C/Lightning port after a period of inactivity - this measure being designed to protect the iPad from allowing data to be accessed by a connected computer or maliciously-modified charging source.
