I added a new Gmail account to my phone for my daughter (I already have one for myself that works fine), as well as to her iphone and iPad. The email address opens fine in a browser, but the app gives an error message “cannot get mail …@gmail.com is currently unavailable”.
I have deleted and re-added the account a few different times, as well as removed the app and put it back. Still no luck. What am I missing?

When you added the account did it ask to authenticate the connection by signing in to your Google account? If not have you created an app specific password & entered this instead of the usual account password?
Is the account the primary or secondary account?
It did ask me to enter my password. And since the account is for a minor I had to validate/approve it as well. On my phone the account would be secondary. But on her phone and iPad it is the primary one.
Have you tried creating an app specific password for the account?
I wonder if it’s due to being a secondary account even though it is set up as the main account on the device.
