Web pages crash all the time in Safari on iPhone

This is the issue I've been having exactly since updating to Sonoma 14.5 (MacOS). Pretty-much any site that has Javascript crashes. Turning off JS "fixes" but then the sites don't work.

I tried clearing caches, all web data, history, etc. No joy. Tried reinstalling MacOS. No fix.

Oddly, I created a new user (me-2) and things work over there. But that's sort of a stupid hack!

I'm hoping to figure out what I need to delete on main user ("me") to get that working again.

NOTE: main-user crashes on Apple sites. Pretty-much any JS site. I don't think the issue is the site(s).

I made the change you suggested. Sadly, it didn’t help me at all. Certain websites are worse than others (Facebook for example isn’t awful), but websites that have links to multiple articles and such? Forget it. Crashes happen within minutes if not seconds. It’s horrendous.

I have been struggling with this problem for YEARS on so many of the sites I visit regularly (ESPECIALLY pcgamer, tomshardware, and ign - yes I’m a bit of a geek).

After trying every troubleshooting suggestion I could find on the issue I’d accepted I would just have to live with this pain for life.. But after hitting it like 10 times today I thought I’d try again to find a resolution. AND HERE IT IS! FINALLY! Disabling “privacy preserving ad measurement” seems to have solved the problem.

Mine too. Used to be slow loading specifically yahoo webpage. Then when trying to go to discussions, it will always kick me out and go back to the parent article and I’d have to go back to discussions. Now I’ve been getting an error page, so I decided to remove it and use chrome browser.

It's a misbehaving web page.

Safari detects when the page is working improperly and notifies you rather than crash.

I use a lot of different web sites and only see this issue very, very rarely.

No idea; I personally don't come across them all that often.

Frankly, YouTube seems to trigger the issue more often than most.

I think you misinterpreted my responses as my needing help; I was addressing an earlier poster who complained of multiple Safari crashes.

@luanne183... this is the right answer. Wow, months of frustration over -- and to think this answer is buried deep within Apple Support discussions.

I have an Apple developer account. And as I've said, the game runs everywhere except on recent ios versions.

The problem is the ios webview, or some protection mechanisms.

If the problem is in protection mechanisms then it is up to you, the developer, to fix it.

Hi, curious to know if the other phones where this happens, are they also yours? In other words are they also using the same AppleID?

I regularly visit pages that are almost nothing but links all the time, and they never crash my iPhone.

One example:

I access Discussions regularly, never use anything but Safari, and have never seen the issue you describe.

However, if Chrome works best for you, feel free to continue to do so.
