external cd-drive not recognized when plugged in

Have not connected my CD-drive to my Mac in quite some time. Now my Mac doesn't recognize the drive, i.e. no response when plugged in.

iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 13.3

It will not have an icon on the desktop until after you put in a CD or DVD - that icon should show then if you have your preferences set to show external HD's, DVDs, etc.

Dear Babowa,

your advice was exactly what I needed, and it worked perfectly!!

Had not use my CD-drive in some time and completely forgot it needed something in its drive to connect properly!
