Storage space remains same after deleting user profile on MacBook Air

Hi All, I needed to set up a new profile on my MacBook Air and after I did I decided to delete the old one through system settings. The profile is gone, however the files and space they take up still remains. eg I have 50gb free but should have 150gb free. Ive shown all files in finder to see if I can find them to no avail. does anyone else have any ideas. I think a full reset and reinstall might be needed.

thanks

by default finder hides a lot of files and dirs apple don't think users should mess around with try

personally I use a free file manager rather than finder it's called doublecommander and show a lot more by default and is for me easier to navigate

I have this problem too I found the files in /Users folder on finder but I can't delete them, they go in bin but from there I am not able to delete them, there is a red minus sign on the desktop folder in my deleted user could it be related to that? there is nothing in that folder so I don't really have a problem with space, but I still want to delete it for completeness sake, does anyone know how? when I try to delete it from bin it says the folder is in use but that's not really possible cause the user has been deleted
