Trying to add Gmail account to Apple Mail and getting the spinning wheel.

I found a question on this before. I spent an hour following guides on how to add a Gmail email client to Apple Mail, I followed all the steps advised, work on the iphone no problem but on the MAC?

Turns out that when you add an account and select Google then it tries to verify the account BUT it expects Safari to be your default browser. If like me you have Chrome as the default then when you get to the second stage it just doesnt respond.

Quick fix (after hour or so frustration!) change default browser to Safari add email account and change it back!!

By the way it seem that a new Gmail account doesnt default to IMAP...you have to login the the email with a browser go to all settings and Select the POP/IMAP tab at the top and enable IMAP!

I said it would be easy and take a few mins... what was I thinking??
