Cable conundrum: mac mini to imac

What cable should I use to connect my 2013 imac to new mac mini? I could use thunderbolt or hdmi-- which is best?

+ 1 The new Mac mini does not support using an iMac as a display in Target Display Mode.

You will need to connect and use an external display with the new Mac mini.

Neither, it won’t work. Find another use for your iMac or dispose.
