iOS16 Network issues on mobile devices

Affected devices: iPhone 14, iPhone 12, iPhone 11 & iPhone 8

Issue start: Late October 2022

Issue end: still persisting

Late October started this issue with network on our mobile devices. Both on WiFi (multiple WiFis) and cellular data. Multiple applications has been affected, but other applications are working fine.

Multiple apps has been affected (both Apple apps and third-party). The applications are buffering and not being able to continue inside tha app, we can open the application but not continue inside the app since it's buffering.

Some apps stops working, but other applications are working fine. The most affected applications are Safari, AppStore, Bank applications (Swedbank, SEB, Handelsbanken), H&M. Teams, Outlook and other Microsoft applications are working fine.

Troubleshooting steps made:

  1. Restart iPhone - issue resolves for a few hours, the issue comes back again
  2. Reset Networksettings - issue resolves for 1-2 weeks, the issue comes back again
  3. Factory reset from iTunes - issue resolves for 1-2 seeks, the issue comes back again

This issue seems to have started with the new iOS16 version.

Question for Community

  1. Is there any other troubleshooting steps I can try?
  2. Does this have to do with the DNS on multiple affected devices?
  3. Changing the DNS settings to manual, is the a DNS I can try?
  4. Is this a known issue, CP37?

Few Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) do not provide Carrier Settings in full but they offer APN settings for example

  • Google FI which has APN to be entered manually as h2g2
  • BSNL in India which provides APN pin to be updated manually as bsnlnet

Settings > Mobile Data > APN [under Mobile Data APN] enter the APN pin

Use the APN pin based on your carrier. Ask them or google and search.

If you do see the option to enter APN then the only option is give below

Carrier Update (Required): Released by your Cellular Service provider (Carrier Update), affects your Outgoing / Incoming calls, SMS, Data etc..

How to Update Carrier Settings

You can manually check for and install a carrier settings update with these steps: Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see an option to update your carrier settings.
