Technically no, if you synced data to the cloud, it isn't part of the backup. Read here How to back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud - Apple Support
Thank you! I have very few apps syncing in iCloud, which should then leave even more room for a backup, right? Yet in my first attempt to back up my iPhone said I needed extra storage (there's at least 4 gigas free), and since then it's just abandoning the process (while powered and connected to wifi) without an explanation. What could be going on?
