Messages app freezes after updating my iPhone to latest iOS 16.4.1

Have 14 Plus and upgraded to latest iOS 16.4.1. 3 days ago. Ever since messages app will freeze and cannot access without shutting down entirely and restarting. No issues with other apps. Have done everything can think of short of wiping phone and restarting. Deleted old messages, tried not using iMessage just text message. Reset settings on phone….have seen a few other post have similar issue so glad it’s not just me…but this is incredibly frustrating…..

I have two phone 13 mini's , one for work and one for personal. I had this issue on my work phone after the upgrade. I played with several configuration settings around the messages. the one that seems to work in my case was under my appleid -> Icloud -> Messages . I enabled the synch to icloud and then after, I think I set it back to disabled. That seemed to resolve the freezing for me, so far. let me know if this works for anyone else. good luck.

Similar issue here, but worse. iMessage, phone and multiple apps are frozen. Apple Watch not pairing / syncing workouts. Cannot restart phone with side buttons. Need to restart with with “settings: General: Shut down". Restarting fixes the issue temporarily. At first, I thought it was related to my Apple Watch as it only started when I came home from work (I don’t wear it at work) but it has persisted today even with watch off.
