Blocking junk or phishing emails

I also am having problems with blocked, junk emails still coming thru to my email after being blocked and sent to junk. They come thru with the blocked symbol still on them. My email is set up to automatically send them to trash, but instead, they are coming back to my email. Also, quite frequently, when I block a junk email, the block symbol never appears and I don’t know why. I send them to junk anyway, but I don’t know why the symbol doesn’t appear and it doesn’t show them blocked either. It’s getting really frustrating because I must get around 50-75 junk emails every day.

Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

1. Check your email provider's settings: Ensure that you have properly configured the spam filter settings for your email provider.

2. Verify your email provider's blocking rules: Ensure that blocked senders are indeed being sent to the trash or junk folder, rather than being returned to your inbox.

3. Update your email filters: Create custom filters to catch specific keywords, phrases, or sender addresses that are commonly associated with spam emails. This can help automatically redirect unwanted emails to your junk or trash folder.

4. Report spam: Apple has a button that you can press to send the email to “Junk” and it should have all future emails from that address also go to junk.

5. Avoid sharing your email address publicly: Ensure that you are cautious when sharing your email address online, as this can lead to an increase in spam emails. Consider using iCloud+ to use the Hide my Email feature. You can sign up for as little as $0.99/Month USD, and it is worth it.

6. Use a third-party spam filter: If Apples’ spam filtering isn't sufficient, consider using a third-party spam filter.

7. Consider changing your email address: If all else fails and you continue to receive an excessive amount of spam, it may be worth considering changing your email address and starting with a clean slate.

I've had good luck using the Rules on my MacBook. I don't have to save each individual version of the spam address. Often they will use more than one especially if they spam bomb you or try multiple days like around holidays.

example:

info@spammer.com

cs@spammer.com

fred@cs.spammer.com

I create one rule:

From <ends with> spammer.com

takes care of all 3 addresses and any later versions. I move mine to auto delete, but you can move it to trash or junk bin as you like.

One thing I wish we had was a rule we could say:

if the sender domain doesn't match the published To field, it would treat as spam. We could have this as an opt-in feature in iCloud+

Almost everytime, they don't match.

example:

My From field shows "info@paypaI.com" (using a capital I it's really info@paypai.com but looks like it says PayPaL.com)

But the actual sender is something like "4767@spammercentral.com". It can be completely different and very obvious.

Honestly the biggest root problem is that we are an opt-out society and not opt-in. We also should have full control of our emails and phone numbers with any company, and we don't. We will continue to battle this increasingly until something hugely breaks and the mess we build until then is growing exponentially.

Hi, well, when I receive unwanted email, I click on the sender and 'mark as Blocked' (well, on my Mac it is in Dutch ;-) ).

But, then they go straight to junk mail. Could work, only: I check my junk mail quite often (sometimes an important mail gets send to junk), and I receive about 50 blocked mails per day in my Junk. So if I haven't checked it for a few days, I need to look at a few hundreds of mails I blocked, but are still in my junk. Is there a way, to prevent a blocked sender from entering may mailbox completely? To have it bounced back or whatever? Or sent to trash instead of junk? Thank you!
