AppleTV Autoplay

Why hasn’t Apple added the ability to turn off auto play in the AppleTV app?

Every other app has the ability to turn off auto play, why not the AppleTV app?

“Just hit the back button to prevent it” is NOT a helpful answer, that’s a dismissive workaround to a frustration that can be easily fixed by adding the option in settings.

You seem to copy and paste the same two unhelpful comments on every AppleTV post. It’s pretty frustrating to read those same unhelpful comments on each AppleTV question and see how many points and “Apple recommended” answers you’ve racked up. I wish there was a way to mark your comments as “Unhelpful” to maybe encourage someone else to chime in with a better conversation than you’re offering.

So after about a year of my autoplay being “broken” on my iPhone & iPads, and just changing a setting and breaking autoplay on the AppleTV itself, I may I have a terrible “solution” for you… try settings> accessibility > “turn off autoplay previews” and you can be my sanity check and let me know if that also turns off your episodes autoplaying like it did for mine… notice it’s “turn off autoplay previews” and not turn off autoplay… i WANT autoplay and despise the shock of previews playing unexpectedly.. hope this helps you! …and hopefully Apple accessibility can make this an accessible product again soon…

Based on what I have seen while attempting to stop autoplay, it is clear to me that there is no real answer. I read the same frustrated non-answer in each post. It DOES NOT work to just hit the back button. I've done that 100 times. Pretty ridiculous that a company like Apple doesn't provide a real answer or option. I hate autoplay. Why can't we watch the credits????!!!!! Don't tell me what I want to do....I DO NOT want to immediately watch another show.

Apple has changed the interface and controls since the earlier reply. Now the end credits get PiP in the upper right corner. Navigate up and select that to bring it back to full screen and not start a next episode.

There still isn’t a setting to play only single episodes in their full runtime automatically, when more episodes are available. You may give feedback about that, as mentioned above.

Thank you so much for the information in your reply to my question about autoplay. I did try that after reading your reply, and still, I could not watch the credits. It is most challenging, I find, after watching a movie. That is when I would really like to see Information about actors, where it was filmed, What songs were played for the movie, etc. Again I thank you.

For “end credits”, I meant the in-show last part of an episode detailing the crew listing, often in a scroll.

If you want more details (information about actors, where it was filmed, what songs were played for the movie, etc.), then visit IMDb instead. IMDb is now an Amazon company, so such direct link may be easily available per title in the Prime app on select devices, probably not many other apps.
