I heard on the news that it’s possible someone can ask for a recovery key for your Apple ID without you knowing. Is it possible and how can I stop it from happening?

I think what you heard was a re-hash of a story that was published several weeks ago but everybody is jumping on the bandwagon and reporting it now. It was somebody who had his phone stolen while he was using it, or maybe it was a case of him entering his passcode while other people could see it (not a smart thing to do IMHO)..

Unless somebody has access to your devices, that implies they cannot.
Thanks for the reply. I did read that you need access to the device and logged in under your Apple ID. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t another way someone could go around the set parameters and request the recovery key without my knowledge. I had just heard on the local news that this was happening, but they didn’t say how they were requesting the recovery key and locking people out of their Apple ID. If they did lock you out of your Apple ID they could devastate you in many ways. So, if you or anyone else knows of a way someone can request the recovery key without your knowledge I would greatly appreciate, knowing how they do it, or a way to prevent it from even happening. Is there a way to never use a recovery key?
Thanks again Limnos, you put my mind at ease. I didn’t know about the earlier publication it sounds like this person was pretty irresponsible with their phone and/or personal info; and it’s not the case of hacking or a back door of getting someone’s recovery key. I get that **** happens, but this person should’ve taken post action when they knew their device was lost or stolen. It just goes to show you have to take precautions with your personal info and if your phone or other devices are stolen change information on your Apple ID because they couldn’t make your life miserable. again (IMHO) all of that said, what can you do if someone does get control of your Apple ID. It’s very similar if not the same as getting your identification stolen.
